Welcome To Beaux Arbres Neighborhood Monthly Potluck and Play Community Hub

Portland, OR

Our Mission.

Beaux Arbres Neighborhood is a collection of 52 homes in Portland, OR, with many young families moving in, so we now have about 25 kids <18. We want to foster independent free play in our neighborhood by hosting a Monthly Potluck and Play event. The potluck will have a component of the neighborhood "elders," listening to the parents discussing the struggles of parenting, particularly re: screens. The "Play" part for the kids is modeled after the Let Grow play club, with minimal intervention by the two people, identified as the monitors. We are also using Block Party USA as a model. More Details: We are already a cohesive neighborhood, with an updated roster to make collective neighborhood action easier, Master Gardner who shares "plant starts," Master Recycler who collects difficult recycle items monthly, and 1-3 events/year to stay connected. We are reviving our annual May Day baskets built and delivered by kids, along with a photo collage of the kids. Our houses are on three dead-end streets, which is a perfect situation for parents to let their kids expand their independence and free play. The kids are from many different schools, so a secondary hope is the idea of "Less Screens, More Play" will resonate into their schools too.
